چکیده
Abstract In the context of deep geological disposal nuclear waste and to improve understanding homogenisation process bentonite barriers, in particular with regard filling technological voids, tests were performed compacted FEBEX samples hydrated under limited axial swelling conditions. The saturated from top surface using vapour transfer technique (imposing suctions 6 0.5 MPa), or deionised water injected at a low flow rate either bottom gap on top. final content via was related suction imposed during according retention curve. Thus, tested MPa lower not enough allow sufficient close gap. contrast, reached higher contents able fill before equilibrium had been reached. liquid supplied through gap, swell easily into open void closed earlier than when hydration took place opposite end. all tests, dry density towards surface. These gradients more remarkable persistent as initial strain larger. No completely homogeneous distribution observed any tests. changes also reflected pore size distribution. pores larger upper limit mercury intrusion porosimetry (~ 550 µm) quantified, which allowed better representation swollen samples. Although ratio corresponding smaller 200 nm ( e m ) initially higher, over time volume macropores M increased more, giving an overall decrease / ratio, tended be constant along longest first stages hydration, macropore considerably saturation it.

Comparing thermal enhancement of Ag-water and SiO2-water nanofluids over an isothermal stretching sheet with suction or injection
In the present paper, the flow and heat transfer of two types of nanofluids, namely, silver-water and silicon dioxide-water, were theoretically analyzed over an isothermal continues stretching sheet. To this purpose, the governing partial differential equations were converted to a set of nonlinear differential equations using similarity transforms and were then analytically solved. It was found...
متن کاملRadiation-induced Segregation and Void Swelling in 304 Stainless Steel
. Void swelling and radiation-induced segregation have been measured in 304 stainless steel. Samples were irradiated in the outer regions of the EBR-11reactor where displacement rates of 2.OX10-8and 6.6 xl 0-8dpds are comparable to those in pressurized water reactor components. Samples were inadiated at temperatures from 371-390°C to total doses of up to 20 dpa. Void swelling reached a maximum ...
متن کاملRadiation Effects in Metals: Void Swelling and Irradiation Creep
Until about 1967 the most detrimental radiation effect expected to be suffered by the stainless-steel cladding of the fuel elements of the projected liquid-metal-cooled fast breeder reactor (LMFBR) was embrittlement due to exces sive hardening at low temperatures or helium agglornrration at grain boundaries at high temperatures, These problems, however, were at least qualitatively understood, ...
متن کاملAutomated Measurement of Total Suction Characteristics in High-Suction Range Application to Assessment of Swelling Potential
An automated experimental system to characterize moisture-contenttotal-suction relationships for unsaturated clayey soils is described. Unlike traditional techniques requiring independent measurement of total suction and moisture content (e.g., thermocouple psychrometry and filter paper), suction is directly controBed and corresponding moisture contents are continuously monitored. The system is...
